Hey, I'm half Swedish and I find the portrayal of the Swedish chef to be...well, the same as I've always found it: HILARIOUS. Seriously, GKO. Cool post. Nothing will ever come close to the absurd and wholesome humor of the Muppets. While it's an obviously great show, I can't imagine being Jim Henson pitching the concept. "Okay, we're going to have a bunch of puppets and they're kind of doing this Vaudeville/variety show, but there's always a human guest star, like a famous Hollywood actor or a ballet dancer or a famous musician, and we get to see the drama behind the scenes, and the frog character is trying to keep it all together, but this pig is in love with him, but she's really emotional and violent..." They must have just stared at him.
J! You're half Swedish? Can't say I would have guessed that. And you're right about Henson- I assume you know that the heckling old men in the box are caricatures of Henson's advisers in college. They both told him he was crazy when listening to his ideas for building his own major through the engineering and theater to create puppets... puppets that would, one day, entertain people of all ages all over the world...
